The Bill :: Smithy's Women
Kerry Young: Played by Beth Cordingly
Episode: Various
Kerry and Smithy had somewhat of a complicated relationship, with the inital interference of Kerry's ex husband Luke Ashton to deal with. Ending up kissing during Smithy's first day, Kerry and Smithy had a light hearted flirtation, largely ignoring Luke. When Luke left, Kerry was broken hearted, having begged her him to move away with her and vowed never to let a man treat her like that again. As things started to get more serious, Kerry seduced Smithy in his car whilst they were helping Des keep watch for a teenage joyrider and were discovered half naked on the back seat by an unimpressed Des after the area car was stolen. Things began to get more complicated and culminated in a drunken one night stand whilst Kerry was in a relationship with fellow PC Cameron Tait. Vulnerable, Kerry was manipulated by Gabriel Kent to believe that Smithy had raped her and pressed her to make it official. After much hesitation and headache for both Gina and Smithy, Kerry accepted that whilst Smithy had taken advantage, he hadn't raped her. Kerry was however later raped by Gabriel Kent and went off the rails, persuing a relationship with David Radford whilst undercover, resulting in almost getting herself and Smithy killed in the fallout. After turning it around and arresting David, Kerry decided to come clean to Gina about everything, something Gabriel was keen to stop and was shot dead by Gabriel outside of the station after declaring her mutual love to Smithy.
Andrea Dunbar: Played by Natalie J Robb.
Episode: Various.
Undercover journalist Andrea was on a mission to make her married lover and boss DI Neil Manson jealous and used what started as the drunken affections of her sergeant to do just that. Whilst sharing their mutual dislike of Gabriel Kent, Smithy and Andrea bonded over several drinks and ended up kissing during a party, overseen by Neil. After being knocked out during a call, Smithy visited Andrea in hospital before Neil found out what had happened and Neil was heartbroken to see them together. When Andrea returned to the station, Smithy greeted her and invited her out for a drink, kissing her outside of the station, Andrea aware that Neil had witnessed it. Eventually coming clean about her affair, Smithy stepped aside, warning Andrea to be careful.
Louise Larsen: Played by Rosie Marcel
Episode: Various
Louise was the wife of local gangster and hardman Peter Larson who had had dealings with DC Zain Nadir before. Meeting Louise after she'd had her car stolen, Smithy was frustrated at how unhelpful she was, yet found himself strangely intrigued by her. After some backhanded flirting and a witness statement that hadn't been signed, Smithy visited her at home and the two had an argument, resulting in a heated kiss. Spending the night, Smithy was saddened at being shown the door and spent time trying to meet her again, eventually getting his wish as the two embarked on an affair. When Pete Larson found out, Smithy was abducted at gunpoint and beaten as his colleagues rushed to find him. When Larson was arrested, Smithy demanded to be taken to see Louise, soon realising that Pete had ordered her murder. Arresting the hitman, Louise was taken to the station and questioned, having been wrapped up in all of Pete's dealings after her signature had been forged. She ended things with Smithy at the station, leaving him tearful and heartbroken. Louise promised to help in exchange for her freedom and visited Smithy to tell him that, and the two started their affair again after a heart to heart. Staying together in a bed and breakfast, Smithy decided to give up the job he loved to go with her to Australia to start again after the trial. Before they could see this through, Smithy was once again abducted at gunpoint and Louise was murdered - her death seemingly caused by Smithy in a hit and run. After a spell in prison whilst his colleagues proved that it was a set up, Smithy was released and he returned to his job at Sun Hill.
